if there's one thing i can't stand it's gender roles. as i was switching channels to see what was on the tv, i realized i was at a lost. it's sunday, i don't enjoy watching football, or watching action movies from the eighties. so i turned it on the tv guide channel to get the schedule for the next hour. along comes the spike channel, aka the channel for "men". and this is what they had lined up, monster truck rallies, some show about pimping out your "ride", and some stupid shit about some hot model of the month. who says guys need to be interested in that kind of shit? and why must every woman featured on spike network need to look like a fucking joke? this channel does not speak for all guys, and if i was one, i would be somewhat offended.
now as far as the women on the channel, i have no problem with you wanting to be sexy, feel sexy or just play guys for chumps. but there's a difference between showing your sexuality and exploiting it. this channel is just an inaccurate portrayal of the world. (except LA.) and some people weak enough to follow actually conform to these ideals...
and of course, these gender roles start from birth. the second a baby pops out the whoo haa we drown it with pastel blues and pinks. we give them gender specific toys, and brainwash them with godforsaken commercials of consumption. "this is what you're supposed to like, this is how your supposed to be." it's only a form of control..
